TIME TO READ THAT WATER METER

The City of Union will be reading water meters again starting April 21st thru April 25th.  Residents are asked to make sure your meter is visible.  Do not park cars on meters and if you have debris covering the meter please remove it.  These meters are city property and the majority of them are located just off property lines on city right-of-ways.

Residents are not allowed to turn the meter on or off or tamper wit it in any way.  If you need your water turned off or on or checked for a leak those hours are from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday thru Friday.  These services are available after hour for an additional cost.  Please call City Hall to schedule an appointment.

PARK BATHROOMS

OPEN SOON

Due to cold temperatures in the evenings the bathrooms have remained closed at the City Park.  The restrooms have no heat to them so the piping runs the risk of freezing.

MAYOR and COUNCIL SEATS OPEN

January 2009

Election day in November is fast approaching and the City of Union has 3 council seats open, which are four-year terms.  The mayor seat is also open and it is a two-year term.  If you are interested in running for these positions please contact City Hall or stop by for an application and all necessary paper work.  Filing deadline is August 28, 2008.

The Mayor Role:  the mayor presides over council meetings and participates in discussions, but votes only to break ties.  He/she appoints committees with council approval and signs all ordinances and other records of proceedings approved by the council.  The mayor is the recognized civic leader in the eyes of the community.

The Councilor Role:  the City Council is the elected governing body of the city government.  The Council is responsible to the citizens for:

  • Establishing community-wide goals that address short-and long-range needs.

  • Formulating policies that define a course of action and shape city operations.

  • Providing quality services using available resources.

  • City Council members are local leaders.  The electorate expects the Council to set the tone and direction for municipal operations.

As the temperatures warm up the City public works crew will be using cold-patch to fill potholes.  This material works great when temperatures warm up and will hold in the hole better.
